SoftArtians has the privilege of hosting and coordinating the New England BlackBerry Developers Group in cooperation with Research in Motion's BlackBerry Developer Group community program.

Last night was our first meeting which was held at the Marriott in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA. We were fortunate to have Mike Kirkup, Director of Developer Relations at RIM as a guest speaker.

My personal highlights from the talk

  • WebKit Browser - Mike said this will be extremely performant and all around excellent. I've used browsers from multiple different mobile phones including WinMo and Android, and all I will say is that I'm glad to see BlackBerry making some improvements here. I really can't wait for this one.
  • BES Express - This has been well publicized for weeks now, but it was interesting to hear the motivation for RIM making this product available. It was to enable smaller companies to put their employees' devices on a BES system without having to make them incur the cost of an enterprise BES server. There is a quite a lot of functionality in BESX being provided for free from RIM.
  • Super Apps - "Super Apps" are a set of guidelines and characteristics that RIM is publicizing to make apps more seamless, usable, and useful on BlackBerry. I've started thinking about ways that Super App characteristics can improve the experience in SilverDust, SoftArtisans' BlackBerry SharePoint solution.

The event in general

All in all, we had great turnout for this event. I was really pleased to see so many local developers turn out for the first meeting. Here are some things that some of the attendees had to say about it:

"The single source and forum for all BlackBerry developers, get direct and timely info from RIM – highly recommended!"

And,

"It was a great Meetup. Thanks to all the organizers and Mike Kirkup for an informative session."

I think that to receive the credit loans from creditors you should present a great motivation. Nevertheless, once I've received a college loan, because I wanted to buy a car.
